Phone Battery FAIL – An Easy Fix

May 29, 2013 in I Adore What I Love

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been out and about all day long and by the time 3:00 PM rolls around, I’ll look at my cell phone only to see that it is already completely dead!  First thought: wah wahhhh. Seconds thought: how did that even happen?? I was working all day and didn’t even use the darn thing! Third thought: I need to find a charger stat!  Final thought: Annoying! So, I may not have found a complete solution, but I did find an awesome app that can help to extend your cellular battery life… BatterySense by Philips Consumer Lifestyle is not only reliable, but it’s also user friendly and totally smart.  I’ve been using it for a little over a month now and it’s come in handy so many times! In a nutshell, some highlights of the app are that it tells you how much battery time you should have left on your phone while using different functions, such as talk time, facetime calling, internet use, eBook reading, game play, audio playback, etc.   It also tells you how much more battery life you might get on your phone by turning off certain settings, such as your bluetooth, location services, and/or push notifications.

Now, all these components are cool and all but my favorite part of the app is under the “Battery Simulation” tab. This feature allows you to inform the app of how much battery time you want or need your phone to have left throughout the remainder of the day; then, it will intuitively give you suggestions for what settings to turn off on your phone in order to get the battery life extended to where you want it to be.

In case you didn’t follow that, here’s an example: let’s say you have 25% battery life left currently, which equates to 2 hours of internet use, but while consistently using the internet you’d prefer that your phone’s battery is able to last for the remaining  7 hours of the day… well, the Philips app will tell you what you need to change in your settings for your cellular device to stay awake longer.  In this case, you may have to turn off your WiFi Radio and/or lower your screen brightness; all in the name of saving your phone from downright dying while you’re out and about with no access to a charger.

And speaking of chargers, being the tech nerd that I am, I obviously still like to keep a portable travel charger with me at all times!  The Magicstick Portable Battery for Smartphones by Powerocks is small, easy and comes in my favorite color – purple, amongst many other fun colors too :)  What’s more, it carries enough juice to fully charge my iPhone 5 not once, but twice!!

So the next time your iPhone is dying, think: there’s an app for that!
