The Most Amazing Way to Grocery Shop… EVER!

November 10, 2013 in I Adore What I Love

Ughhh I used to go grocery shopping every Monday after work.  I’d either head to Trader Joe’s in the city or make a quick pit stop on my way home at the Dominick’s near the school that I work at.  Now, because I’m at school so late working I don’t exactly have the luxury of doing that anymore on a weekly basis.  It’s no surprise that all I want to do after teaching first graders all day is go home and go to bed.  I literally want to do nothing else because I’m physically and mentally drained after such long days.

Again, not that I’m complaining – I really do love all aspects of my job!!  What I will say though, is that I no longer have time to go grocery shopping which means that I no longer make dinner for myself and my husband!  It’s really a shame because making dinner is super relaxing and stress relieving for me.  I love it.  But I no longer do it.  Wahh wahhh.  The point of this post is that there is a solution!
And it’s pretty dang awesome.

The Most Amazing Way to Grocery Shop... Ever - www.iadorewhatilove.comThe answer to my problems comes from a San Francisco based start-up company called Instacart. To put it simply, Instacart does the grocery shopping for you.  Well, they physically do it for you but you have to do a little leg work too, of course, which only consists of choosing what you want to purchase before hand.

Ummm, too good to be true? NOPE!
Easy? YEP!

Basically, Instacart describes themselves as a “same-day grocery delivery service. [They] connect you with Personal Shoppers in your area who pick up and deliver your groceries, so you don’t have to! [Their] Shoppers visit your favorite local stores and deliver in as little as 1 hour!”

And it’s true, that’s exactly what happens.  All you need to do is go to their online website (or their iPhone or iPad app!), order from the grocery stores in your area (you can literally buy ANYTHING that the store has to offer), and then wait… only for about an hour or two though!  Or less!  You can also schedule your drop-off time for a future day and time if you’re a planner.  It’s kinda awesome, especially for someone like me who works late hours and doesn’t have the patience, time or desire to do anything afterwards.

The one drawback?  This service is only available for those of you living in the Chicago, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Oakland and Berkley areas – for now!  Feel free to email the company at and ask them to branch out to your area next!!

If you reside in the Windy City like I do, they currently offer their service at Mariano’s, Costco (READ: you don’t even need to be a member #lifechanging), Whole Foods, and Dominick’s.  When they first launched, however, they were only delivering to Trader Joe’s which has since temporarily come to an end.  Their blog assures us, though, that they are working on getting their service back up there so keep your fingers crossed, Chi-town friends =)

Oh but there’s more!  Did I mention that Instacart also provides their customers with a database of 100s of recipes, too?!  You can sift through tons of desserts, appetizers, lunch and dinner ideas and then with one click of the mouse, add the ingredients needed to your instacart food order!  Genius.

I’ve already used this service and I’m obsessed.  You can even add notes to each product you add to your cart for your buyer’s reference – so if you like your bananas bought green, just let them know!

Delivery is only $3.99 if you order over $35 of groceries per store.  Not bad at all and in my opinion, totally worth it!! (They will also many times have promotions where if you spend a certain amount, delivery is absolutely FREE!) I say, order before you leave work and by the time you get home, your groceries will be waiting for you at your door – now that’s priceless.

Click here for $10 off your first purchase! Woohoo!
