I did it in 2012 so I most certainly have to do it this year too… that is, count all my blessings and take a look back at my top 10 moments of 2013! This year was definitely a fun one and I can’t believe that it’s already coming to a close. Some years I’m totally fine with leaving the past in the past but I honestly have nothing bad to say about 2013. Obviously, it was no twenty twelve (come on, that was the year I tied the knot to the most funny, charming, supportive and all around amazing guy that I know) but the last 367 days (I realize this post is coming in just short of Jan 1.) definitely flew by for me! So much *new* in my life to note… but also a lot of the same.
Let’s take a lookski below:
#10 [February 7th] The day Isaiah turned 29. He happened to get home from a work trip that night and upon his arrival back to Chicago, I literally transformed our apartment. I blew up about 100 (no joke) balloons and just had them on the ground, covering our entire floor and walking space. Then, I bought 50 (truth) decorative happy birthday balloons from The Dollar Store and scattered them everywhere, taping them to the walls, chairs, tables, etc. I also had a “Happy Birthday” banner and a a cake for him. I had such a blast doing it and seeing his face when he walked into the house that night was priceless.
#9 [April 26th] Going to LA for my friend Jen’s bachelorette party. Like, the copious amounts of ridiculous, immature, crazy fun we had was something for the books. Unfortunately with that, I will never forget acquiring food poisoning on that trip and having the worst plane ride of my life on the way home. All in all though, I loved every minute of that trip prior to eating the shrimp tacos which literally turned mine (and two other girls’ on the trip) world’s upside down. Fun times documented here, here, here, and here.
#8 [April-May] Traveling FOUR weekends in a row for friends’ wedding festivities! First was the bachelorette party that I mentioned in #9 and then right after, Isaiah and I went to Austin, TX then to Scottsdale, AZ and finally to Omaha, NE. Each trip was better than the next… and as always, I loved being part of these one-of-a-kind filled-with-love wedding celebrations of our very best friends. It was the first time I had been to Austin and I want to go back like yesterday. To say that I adored everything about the city is an understatement. In addition, the last wedding we attended in Omaha (another city that I had never been to before) was super special because Isaiah and I were BOTH in the wedding party!!!! Walking down the aisle with him was so cool and really significant for us.
One of my favorite pictures from Rob and Jules’ wedding in Arizona
#7 [July 21st] Going to the Justin Timberlake/Jay-Z concert!!!!!!!!!!! At Soldier Field!!!!!!! With three other couples!!! Enough said! (Oh, except for the fact that I also saw New Kids on the Block that weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it as if I was my 12-year-old self. Go ahead, judge, I have no shame.)
#6 [August-October] Ummm, going through the redesign process of my blog! As I’ve mentioned in the past, it was probably the worst thing I’ve ever wanted to do BUT… also the best. The final outcome (which I’m still OMGing about!!) is truly perfection and was worth every ounce of time it took out of me. Thank you again to Aubrey over at The Kinch Life and for Chelsea at Olive and Ivy for making my design vision a reality.
#5 [All summer long!!] Preparing for first grade!!!! Well, to get more specific, finding out that I would be teaching first grade and moving schools and setting up my classroom over the summer then taking it apart and setting it up again just a few days prior to the year starting in order to have a SmartBoard (which I’ve used for the past 6 years)… best decision ever! And yeah, I needed this professional change in my life. It was just what the doctor ordered and I am seriously obsessed with my little students! They make everyday better and funnier and just plain ol’ more exciting :)
#4 [June 9th] The way we celebrated our wedding anniversary. Made crepes, went up to the Skydeck at Willis Tower (whoa, check me out doing a pushup over Chicago), walked through Millennium Park, and ate at our favorite resto: Joe’s Stone Crab. We were tourists in our own city and I loved every minute.
#3 [October] Miami! Ughh I want to go back. We went for a wedding (which happened to be really freaking fun and also, oh so beautiful) but arrived early so we could take a pseudo vacation in the meantime. Stayed at The W. Loved loved loved. Did I mention that I want to go back?
#2 Eating out at some of the most incredible restaurants in the city that I call home. It’s no secret that Chicago is known for their unbelievable restaurant scene but this year, more and more notable ones popped up all over town. Isaiah and I always feel lucky to be able to enjoy date nights out on the town at these ridiculously fine establishments; some of my faves included Summer House Santa Monica, Girl and the Goat, Boarding House, and my all time favorite RPM Italian (which I have yet to write a review on). I also loved all the fab places we ate at out of town, including the romantic Casa Tua and trendy Bianca in Miami. I highly recommend dinner at Casa Tua and dessert at Bianca if you ever head to South Beach. #Perfection.
#1 [September] Celebrating my birthday with Isaiah in Lake Geneva. The fact that it was my birthday has nothing to do why it is number 1 on this list. But the fact that it was one of the only trips we took this year that was just the two of us? That has everything to do with it. It was great just to be able to get away for a weekend with my husband. Puts a smile on my face thinking about it :)
OH and I just thought of a number 11 critical moment in my life this year: this July, I went from being a hair-dye virgin (meaning that never did I ever dye my hair before in my 29 years) to having a full-on head of ombre hair! Oh my! Can you say game changer in the way I feel, look, and do?!?! Definitely proud of myself for actually trying something different for once… I can hardly remember what I looked like before!
With all that being said, it’s pretty clear that most of my top moments of 2013 have to do with celebrating, traveling and eating. And you know what I say? Nothing wrong with that! As I read that back though, it mainly makes me realize the love that I have around me, the eventful life I’m able to lead, and how I am one lucky lady! I don’t take anything for granted but I definitely live life to the fullest. Okay, I’m getting corny and think I should stop now but before I go, I have to thank each of you for sharing in my life’s adventures with me through each and every post that I write. Without all you, 2013 would not have been the same.
