Ashley Guest Blogs: DIY Chalkboard Platters

February 20, 2014 in I Adore What I Love

Happy Thursday, friends! I am thrilled to announce that today we will be learning how to tackle another awesome DIY project from my friend Ashley!  You may remember Ashley from when she guest blogged last month, showcasing these seriously-really-freaking-cool flower vases. This time, however, she’ll be teaching us how to easily create your own personalized platters.  So fun and simple that even I could probably do it!  Take a look and then get started on your own time.  It’s sure to be a hit when you have your next dinner party, luncheon, or are just wanting to whip it out to serve breakfast-in-bed to your family :)

Hi again to the readers of I Adore What I Love!  This project is SUPER easy, just like last time. My aunt found this idea on Pinterest and we had to try it out!

Materials needed:

1. Serving platters in light colors (any size or shape will do)
We used ones that my aunt had around the house but they hadn’t been touched in years – we wanted to finally get some use out of them!

2. Chalkboard paint (available at any craft store or here)

3. Paint brushes (thicker ones to spread the paint).

Here is what we did:

1. We took the platters and painted one layer of chalkboard paint over the center. We left room on the edges (you can tape the edges if you want) to leave some room (see picture).

2. We waited about 30 minutes for the first coat to dry and applied a second coat. We made sure all of the paint was even and smooth.

3. After, we waited until the second coat was dry and we wrote a message on it with chalk! Another great idea is using this platter for a wine/cheese party and labeling all of the different cheeses – as shown here.

So many different uses and a fun/easy thing to make. Enjoy!

WOW!  Thank you SO much again for sharing such a useful project with my readers Ashley!!  I truly think I am going to try this one myself because it is so simple and extremely functional.  I just adore it!

So what do you think guys: are you going to make this at home?
What would you use it for?
Please let Ashley and I know in the comments section of this post!
