Monthly Musts // February 2016

February 1, 2016 in I Adore What I Love

I Adore What I Love - Monthly Musts February 2016 - Title Photo

Happy February!! I’m going to be honest with you, I wrote Monthly Must-Do’s posts for about a year and I was always given great feedback from my fellow Chicago internet friends telling me that they’d actually go out and do the things that I mentioned! {side note: I LOVE getting feedback from you guys} So, I thought that I would continue the tradition and start up with the series again! Good idea, right? Well, I looked back at my last February Must-Do’s post and you guys, it’s exactly what I would write about today! OMG! You should probably check it out, because seriously, two years later and I would write pretty much the same thing. I’d obviously need to fix some dates and update a few sentences, but I wouldn’t change much, that’s for sure. Cue the laugh out loud emoji with the smiley tears here.

For the past few days, I’ve been thinking about this and it’s really been irking me. {unfortunately, these are the things that I dwell on} and while I still want to do a version of these kind of posts, I don’t want you guys feeling like I’m repeating myself from years past. Because obviously!

With that, I’m going to change the name of this series from “Monthly Must-Do’s” to simply put, “Monthly Musts” – HA!

This time around I’m going to write about a few things for Chicagoans to do over the month, a few things that Chicago parents might want to do with their kiddos {#iadoremomlife}, and a few things ANYBODY should do… whether you live in Chicago, Alaska, Mexico or some place in between!

If you do the math, it’s easy to realize that these upcoming “Monthly Musts” posts are getting a major makeover and are going to be bigger and better than ever! Two words: GET EXCITED!

1. Don’t forget!! One more week of Chicago Restaurant Week! If missed, take a look at my roundup of this year’s amazing menus… deliciousness without the extravagant costs. Enjoy!

2. The Chicago Auto Show is seriously my fave! I don’t think I’ve missed a year in my whole lifetime! That is how much I love it. We are so lucky to have it here in Chicago, and while tickets are usually $12 a piece {$7 for seniors, $7 for kids ages 7-12, free for kids under 7}, this year, Groupon is offering a deal for everyone! Click here to purchase your tickets through Groupon!! I’m telling you, it makes sense! The auto show is February 13-21st, so get on it!

3. You guys, I never knew about Chicago Theater Week before!! It’s been going on for 4 years and I never knew! Who am I? Anyways, you can get $15 and $30 tickets to over a hundred plays! I’m booking my tickets for Isaiah and I as we speak… {i’m actually serious}.

1. If your kids are old enough, go ice skating at the Lincoln Park Farm-at-the-Zoo. Only $5 admission, and you can either bring your own skates or rent them for $5. What a fun thing to do on the weekend! It’s open until the end of the month.

2. Did you know Pinstripes Chicago offers a “Tots Playtime”? Every weekday from 10am – 12pm, your kids {12 and under} can bowl for just $3 per child per game, with a $4 shoe rental. And adults bowl free! Not that I want to rush time, but I’m really wishing Brody was of bowling age right now because we would SO be there all the time!

3. So I just went to the store Little Threads in Roscoe Village for the first time last week and I LOVE IT THERE! Seriously you guys, they have the cutest baby and toddler clothes and I really could have bought everything in the store if I had all the money in the world. Every Monday from 10:30-11:00 am they host “Story Time with the Story Book Mom” where award winning story book mom, Neli Yelin, interactively reads to the kids {and parents} in the most entertaining way.

1. Super Bowl Sunday {year #50}duh! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: don’t ask me who’s playing or where it’s even taking place, but count me in for a big get together with friends and food!! Oh, and the commercials; I’m into those too.

2. Valentine’s Day is coming soon {Feb 14th, to be exact} and no matter if you’re married, dating, or single, there are fun things going on that everyone can take part in! The hubs and I have a whole night planned but no babysitter yet… any takers?!? Also, be on the lookout for my vday gift guides… coming atcha Tuesday and Thursday of this week!

3. Host a Grammy Awards PJ Party!! If you ask me, the Grammy’s are basically the best awards show ever {taking place on Feb. 15th this year} because it’s essentially a free, live, concert that you get to enjoy watching right from your own home! No matter if you dance to the music in your living room or sit on the couch and be lazy, it’s a fun show that appeals to everyone! A plus if you have surround sound to really make you feel like you’re there!!

4. I hear National Margarita Day is on  the 22nd. Go to your favorite Mexican joint and have 1, 2, or 3 margs with your delicious taco dinner. Just don’t have 4 because you don’t want to end up on the floor :)

5. I’m not a HUGE Oscar Awards fan {only because I’m not a huge movie-goer} but I know it’s the most anticipated awards show of the year. This year’s takes place on Feb. 28th! I’ll DEFINITELY be watching the pre-show…

6. NETFLIX AND CHILL… with Chelsea’s Handler’s 4-part docu-series aptly named “Chelsea Does”.  The topics are marriage, Silicon Valley, drugs and racism. Isaiah and I watched “Chelsea Does Marriage” this weekend {it was very interesting, by the way} and we can’t wait to watch the others throughout the month of February!

So many fun things that you MUST do this month, yet so little time {feb is the shortest month of the year, after all}. What are you waiting for?? Get on it!!

BUT FIRST: tell me which events you’ll be partaking in during the month of February!

I can watch an entire football and then you ask me what color the teams were wearing and I have no idea! But I too love a good party. (I’d watch your baby – congrats! – on Valentine’s Day but we have a 2 yr old Golden that has no manners!)

I’m the exact same, Mary Beth!!! Football is the one sport I don’t understand at all- oh well! And thanks anyways for offering to babysit!!! Brody loves dogs but I totally understand! Ha!
