Weekly Wins // #1

February 5, 2016 in I Adore Mom Life, I Adore What I Love

It’s Friday!! I, for one, am excited for the weekend and am also excited to say buh bye to this past week – unfortunately, it was a rough one {more on that later}.

I Adore What I Love Blog // Weekly Wins #1 //

Anywayssss, back to being excited about the weekend – I can’t wait because it’s Isaiah’s birthday on Sunday and we get to celebrate!! On Saturday night, we’re going to his absolute favorite restaurant in the city, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, and also, Brody is sleeping at my parents house! As I’ve mentioned in the past, we’ve only gone out a handful of times this past year since bringing the Brodster home from the hospital, and it’s always nice to have an excuse to celebrate something fun! Who’s with me??

So what’s up with the title of this post, you ask?? Well, since I’ve been on a roll starting new series posts {like I Adore What I DID and Monthly Musts}, I thought why stop now! Every Friday, I’m going to post a Weekly Wins post, where I take all the categories from my blog {AKA the “I Adore What I…” categories from the top menu bar} and tell you about my favorite thing that happened in that specific category from the week. Does this make sense? If not, you’ll catch on fast! I promise! Here we go…

Ahhh this is going to sound kind of corny, but I don’t even care because it’s truer than true. I LOVE my little Brody boy. I know you all know this but I just love love love him. I look at him 24/7 and just admire his face, the expressions he makes, the things that he does, and more. {Let’s be honest, the list could go on and on} Well, last Wednesday I found out that my mom’s very best friend tragically and shockingly passed away. This is someone who I’ve known my whole life. I was close to her daughter, too, and, well, her passing has really affected me. I’ve pretty much been a mess because I just can’t fathom that this actually happened. The funeral was on Monday and it was one of the most draining and difficult days for my whole family. Not going to lie, my eyes are still hurting. With that, I have to say that babies make everything better. And Brody is no exception. We brought him to the shiva and he just lit up the room and made everyone smile. I LOVE HIM.

For more than 20 years {i wish i was kidding}, I’ve been on the lookout for the PERFECT t. Guess what? This past week, I found it! I haven’t worn it yet but I bought it {in black AND white} and I am OBSESSED! Seriously you guys, it fits me so well; it’s a little slouchy, not too short, and really soft. Even more, it’s a practical v-neck, not boxy at all, and is the.most.comfortable. I need to get all the colors!!

{ooops, my hair is covering the adorable pocket!}

Last night, I left the house {without the brodster} and went to dinner with my original crew of teacher friends! We had the best time and it just reminded me of how important it is to keep in touch with the people that are important to you. It had been WAY too long since I saw them last, and it was great to catch up. Something to remember: make time to go out with your friends because it’s so so important. Wine should always be involved too, of course. Yep, I’ll cheers to that!

Roasted chickpeas! AKA garbanzo beans! This has become my new favorite snack! There are 1,200,004 different ways you can make them but I decided to go for a sweet and savory “agave cinnamon sugar” variety. All I did was drain and rinse 2 cans of chickpeas, dried them with paper towels REALLY well, peeled off all the skins that were already half off of the beans, spread them out onto a baking sheet, and baked them in a preheated 400 degrees oven for 40 minutes. Once the timer went off, I took them out of the oven, put them in a bowl and mixed in 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil to coat every {now hot and crunchy} bean. Then, I shook lots of cinnamon in the bowl and 1 tbsp of sugar, before adding 1 tbsp agave syrup. I put the beans back on the baking sheet and proceeded to bake for 5 more minutes, took them out, let them cool and enjoyed. OH MY did I enjoy. Honestly, they’re the PERFECT protein-filled snack! My husband loved them too!

One of mine and Isaiah’s good friends had a baby on the 29th!! And!!!!!!! Usually, I am a big proponent of buying baby {and wedding} gifts off the registry but this time around, we thought we’d do something different. We got Nicolas a Pottery Barn Kids Anywhere Chair. Brody enjoys his so much and I believe every baby should have one!! They’re durable, cute, machine washable and just the best! Makes for a perfect baby gift.

{ohhh he’s just chillin’}

If you’re a parent, this one is for you! PopSugar came out with an article highlighting the 50 books your child should read before they turn 12. As a teacher, I recognize the importance of consistently reading to your child on a daily basis and the books featured in this article are some of my faves. Check out these books and then get reading!!

Anyone who has a baby knows how hard it is to get his or her attention to smile at the camera. There’s nothing more annoying than when you have the perfect photo-op and your babe wants nothing to do with it! {seriously though} This week, I found a great app for your iPhone that honestly works. It’s called “Look Birdy” and it flashes a light on your phone along with making bird sounds to grab your little one’s attention. I’ve been using it all week and not only does it succeed in what it sets out to do but Brody will literally smile at the camera because he’s mesmerized by that flashing light.

Ummm, Grease, Live!!!! Did everyone see it?? I hope you saw it! It was honestly the best live tv performance I’ve yet to see. As a diehard Grease lightning fan {i don’t even know how many times i’ve seen the movie as a kid}, I thought it was impeccably produced and they did a great justice to the original! It was fun, exciting, and just perfect in every way. Oh, and Vanessa Hudgens was my un-freaking-believable as Rizzo! If you didn’t see it, you can watch it by clicking here.

My new scarf is EVERYTHING. It’s versatile, neutral, and dressy yet casual. I love the way it lays, I love it’s length, and I love that it’s a full scarf, but not tooooo fluffy.  Honestly you guys, it’s pure perfection. You need it too!!
