25 Things You Don’t Know About Me {UPDATED!}

July 13, 2016 in I Adore What I Love

I Adore What I Love Blog // 25 THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME // #iadorewhatilove

Not sure if all my readers know this but I started this little blog on December 4th, 2012! That’s almost 4 years ago! While I did take a year hiatus {something that I am not proud of, you guys}, blogging has been SUCH a huge highlight of my life. Especially now that I’m a stay-at-home-mom, with my world revolving around my babe {as it should be, right?!?}, blogging gives me the creative outlet that I crave in my day-to-day #momlife living. It’s something FOR ME that I love to do and enjoy so much!! So in thinking back to the year that I started blogging, my life as I know it now is SO DIFFERENT than what it looked like then!!! Not in a good or bad way, just different – well, wait I take that back!! Actually I would say my life now is A LOT better than ever before because of Mr. Brody; let’s be honest here!

I realized that it’s been about 6 months since I relaunched the blog and I feel so thankful to have built such a strong community of readers! Obviously I talk about myself all the time {from telling you about what we’ve done each month, to sharing with you all my weekly wins,  to hearing about my gluten free story and things I’ve learned as a mom, along with much more!}, and obviously you know a lot about me already, but I thought it would be fun to revisit – and update – a post that I wrote years ago when I first started blogging entitled 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me. Yes!! You guessed it!! This post was totally inspired by US Weekly, the magazine I literally coveted at the time and would read from front to back every single week in less than an hour flat the first day it arrived in my mailbox. US Weekly was definitely apart of my life during that era so looking back, it obviously made complete sense that I would get inspired to write a blog post from it. Below you will find my original “25 things you don’t know about me” and my updated banter on each!

..and if you still want to go back and see the original post in it’s entirety, click here! ENJOY!!!

ORIGINAL #1: My favorite food is shrimp, even though I was allergic to it for a few years and have gotten awful food poisoning from it.

UPDATED #1: I still love shrimp but I’ve determined that my favorite of all favorite foods is mushrooms. You can do sooo much with them and they add a layer of flavor amazingness to EVERYTHING, well, except ice cream I guess.

ORIGINAL #2: I studied abroad in London, England  during the summer of ’06 and before that, I went to Israel for 10 days on Birthright.

UPDATED #2: Truth!

ORIGINAL #3: Speaking of London, it is my second favorite city in the world to Chicago, where I was born, raised, and currently live.

UPDATED #3: Yep, still what I tell people!! Yearning to get back to London-town since I haven’t yet been back since studying abroad! The hubs and I have talked about going for our 5th anniversary next summer so we’ll see if we follow through with that!

ORIGINAL #4: I’m kind of celebrity obsessed. I follow all my favs on instagram and when I’m in LA, I always make it my mission to hunt them down.

UPDATED #4: Ok friends, while I do love me some celebrities and get uber excited when I see them, I’ve grown up a bit. I no longer hunt them down when I’m in the mecca and I have the ability to act cool, calm, and collected when I see them. Also, I’ve realized they are real people just like you and me! As US Weekly likes to say, celebrities… they’re just like US! {OMGosh remember when I met Lisa Vanderpump and we became besties!?! I still get excited thinking about it!! Okay, maybe I haven’t grown up thaaaaat much – hahah}

ORIGINAL #5: My daily Starbucks Coffee drink of choice is a venti, decaf americano with one equal and one sweet-n-low.  Yes, I only drink decaf.

UPDATED #5: My mom made me vow to not use any fake sweeteners in my coffee so now I get a venti decaf VANILLA americano. No equal. No sweet-n-low. I actually love it.

ORIGINAL #6: Bravo, HGTV, E, and the Style Network are my favorite television channels.

UPDATED #6: Sooo, Style Network is no longer {wah wahhh} but I still constantly watch Bravo {the most}, HGTV, and E. I also like Lifetime a lot now too!

ORIGINAL #7: I know I should wear sunscreen outside in the sun, but I usually don’t and my shoulders always peel!

UPDATED #7: I actually do wear sunscreen now, BUT only like SPF 10. Which leaves me still peeling in the aftermath. At least I’ve learned a little bit, right!?! Speaking of, my left leg got BURNT while I was in AZ a few weekends ago {even with my sunscreen} and now it’s peeling like WHOA. Oops. PS this aloe is my best friend.

ORIGINAL #8: Shopping is my cardio. Well, maybe it’s not my cardio but I  am damn good at it and get a thrill every time I purchase something new.

UPDATED #8: Still all true. Guilty as charged.

ORIGINAL #9: Since I got engaged on 9/10/11, I have gotten a manicure every single week.

UPDATED #9: Nope, this does not happen anymore! SO after having Brody, that weekly time to myself went down the drain pretty quickly. I let my nails get ridiculously out of control and then I decided to start getting gel nails which I ADORE! They stay on and look shiny for 2 weeks so now I go to the salon every other weekend. It’s great and even though I no longer get a mani every single week, I can’t complain one bit!

ORIGINAL #10: My husband makes me a better person everyday.

UPDATED #10: Yep yep yep yep yep times infinity still true to the core!

ORIGINAL #11: My birthday month, September, is my favorite month and 7 has always been my lucky number {still not sure why; I was born on the 5th}.

UPDATED #11: Still two fun facts about me!

ORIGINAL #12: I’ve sat in many a TV show audiences before, such as Dancing with the Stars, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and back in the day I went to The Bozo Show, The Bonnie Hunt Show, and The Rosie O’Donnell Show.

UPDATED #12: Yep! And actually, we are traveling to LA next week and going to see Jimmy Kimmel again. No clue who the guests are but I’m excited! {my parents are coming and it will be a new experience for Isaiah too, so that’s fun!}

ORIGINAL #13: Deciding what to make for dinner stresses me out but once I‘m doing it, I feel as calm as ever.

UPDATED #13: This is still so true. I love cooking and try to do it as often as possible! I really need to start meal planning though!!!

ORIGINAL #14: One day I will drive a convertible.

UPDATED #14: Still a goal of mine! I’m thinking later in life life, when my kids are older and no longer getting carpooled places :)

ORIGINAL #15: I have magnetic hands… don’t ask.

UPDATED #15: And not only that, we are almost positive Brody has them too. Genes are a crazy thing. But again, don’t ask.

ORIGINAL #16: I’m a sorority girl: was in Kappa Kappa Gamma at IU and because of it, I made best friends for life.

ORIGINAL #17: I’ve read all of Lauren Conrad‘s L.A. Candy fictional book series… and always look forward to the next one coming out.

UPDATED #17: I don’t think she’s coming out with anymore of these books, but I need to get her newest non-fiction coffee table book called Celebrate. It’s supposed to be amazing!

ORIGINAL #18: I can’t wait for Homeland to come back on TV already! Saul is my favorite character.

UPDATED #18: Homeland is still one of my all time favorite television series and you got it, Saul is still my best guy on the show.

ORIGINAL #19: I am really good at playing Tetris, but I get addicted so I can’t have it downloaded on my iPhone.

UPDATED #19: I’ve probably downloaded Tetris five or six times since writing this and then deleted it again. It’s currently NOT on my phone. Though I still am pretty damn good at it.

ORIGINAL #20: I’m genuinely happy for my friends when good things happen to them. And I live for those moments!

UPDATED #20: Heck yeah this still holds true today and everyday.

ORIGINAL #21: No trip will ever top my honeymoon. It was everything and more. Still think about it daily.

UPDATED #21: Yep. Still valid.

ORIGINAL #22: I’d rather run outside than on the treadmill but living in Chicago doesn’t always afford me that luxury.

UPDATED #22: While this is a very true statement, I’m not such a runner anymore. My knees were not so happy with me after doing it, but I do love yoga and glad I started it again!

ORIGINAL #23: I still laugh at the fact that I was on the poms squad in Jr. High.  So comical to me!

UPDATED #23: Pretty funny stuff.

ORIGINAL #24: My brother and I are really close and always have been.  The buildings we live in are right next to each other!

UPDATED #24:  Brad and I are still really close BUT he ditched downtown living for suburban life! Rude! Just kidding, I only say that out of jealously because I want nothing more than to follow his footsteps. Family life needs suburbia! {though don’t be mistaken, I am a city girl at heart and always will be!}

ORIGINAL #25: This is the most difficult list I’ve ever come up with!!!!!!!!!

UPDATED #25: I do remember this list being beyond difficult to come up when I first wrote it in May of 2013 but writing and sharing my updated responses with you guys was kind of A BLAST!

Well that was so much fun!!! It’s crazy to look back and reflect on life but I also find it really necessary from time to time. Thanks for reading, you guys! I have the best blog friends EVER. Period. End of story! See you Friday for my Weekly Wins. Woohoo!

Now tell me something I don’t know about you… in the comments! Go!

  • Courtney July 13, 2016 at 8:53 am

    So cool to read what has changed and stayed the same about you. Artificial sweeteners are pretty bad for you, so kudos to ditching those! My favorite food has changed from baby back ribs to avocados. I eat them on everything :)

    • Dana Ivy July 13, 2016 at 2:12 pm

      Mushrooms are the best. Brody ate a whole container of them tonight as part of his dinner. He clearly has my taste buds! Xoxo

  • Jalisa July 14, 2016 at 3:11 pm

    I loved reading this because I missed the original and it’s a perfect way to know you better, we have quite a few things in common! I’m also a September baby, though I’m at the VERY end, the 29th, my mom might as well have waited until October, haha. My hubby is also in September and on the 7th (!!!) your favorite number, which is mine, too! I was engaged REALLY young (18) and so I had a lot of opportunities to study abroad, which I turned down because I didn’t want to be a way from the now hubs. Really, Jalisa!?!? Do I regret it, YES! I mean, he would’ve still have been here when I returned, haha. With that, my mom tried to convince me to go to Israel on Birthright, but turned that down, too, haha. So, the nearest place to Israel I’ve been is Brooklyn, haha. Coming up with dinner ideas stresses me out too!!! You can imagine the side eye I give my hubby if he complains about the slightest thing after having spent nearly 3 hrs on in Pinterest coming up with something! I have found that planning our meals for the week is super helpful, though I’ve only done it a few times, it made those weeks SO much easier! Anyway, thanks so much for sharing, you are such a love and I adore YOU! I hope you’re having the best week so far, girlie!

    • Dana Ivy July 29, 2016 at 7:18 pm

      Jalisa, I heart you! Yay for september and the number 7, the best month and number ever!!!! Isaiah’s bday is on the 7th but February! Omgosh I feel bad you didn’t go on birthright!!!!! You must get to Israel at some point, okay? It’s amazing. Love the side eye hahahah I do the same!!!!! I adore you the mostest!!!!!! Xox
